Last week we discussed about how to create the SWV Install package through NS 7.0 Console for centralized deployment.

This week we will cover the below areas:

  • Deploying the Agent through NS 7.0 Console.
  • How to verify if the agent installed successfully?

Deploying the Agent through NS:

  • Click on Start->All Programs->Symantec->Symantec Management Console 7.0 to launch the NS Console.
  • Click on Manage->Jobs and Tasks->System Jobs and Tasks->Software->Select Quick Delivery.
  • The Quick Delivery Task window opens up.
  • Right Click Quick Delivery->New->Task.

  • A new window Create New Task opens up.
  • In this window, left hand side navigate to Software->Quick Delivery.

  • On the right hand side, rename the task to
Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization_Agent. For example we will use Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization_Agent SP6_MP1_HF1 - Install. Select Software Resource as "Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization.exe 6_1_SP6_MP1_HF1" from the drop-down menu, Command Line as "Install". The command line you defined while creating the software resource package will appear here. Select Package as "Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization.exe 6_1_SP6_MP1_HF1'".

  • Click on Ok. The task to deploy SWV Agent is now available under Quick Delivery.

  • Under Task Status Click on Quick Run or New Schedule (if you want to schedule the task later, use the second option). For testing, select Quick Run and look up for a hostname on domain or a group of computers and click on Run.

  • The SWV Agent is now installed smiley

How to verify if the agent is installed properly?

There are two ways you can do this:

  • From the Symantec Management 7.0 NS Console.
  • From the endpoint.

From the Symantec Management 7.0 NS Console:

  • Click on Start->All Programs->Symantec->Symantec Management Console 7.0 to launch the NS Console.
  • Click on Manage->Jobs and Tasks->System Jobs and Tasks->Software->Select Quick Delivery-> Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization_Agent SP6_MP1_HF1 - Install
  • Under Task Status select the task that you initiated to install the SWV Agent and click on the Hand icon.

  • The Task Report will be displayed with the statistics indicating success or failure with error codes (if any).

From the endpoint:

When SWV (Symantec Workspace Virtualization) is installed on an end-point there are three possible ways to determine the version of the agent installed.

Method-1: (only applicable if Admin Tool was selected as an option during installation)

  • Look for SWV Admin shortcut on the desktop.
  • Double click on it and you will see the below GUI

  • Click on Help Menu and select About to find the version.

Method-2: From Control Panel

Method-3: Command Line Interface

  • Go to Command prompt and type svscmd -ver. You would see a similar output like the one below if installed.

Conclusion: You have successfully deployed SWV Agent through NS 7.0 Console to the endpoints. We also saw how to verify if the task completed successfully and how to verify what version of SWV we installed.

What's next??

In the upcoming weeks we will see Part-III and Part-IV which will cover:

  • How to create Software Resource Package for VSA and XPF packages through NS Console 7.0?
  • How to deliver the VSA and XPF Packages through NS 7.0 Console?

Maybe create a custom report to inventory Agent Version?

And a managed delivery to check for compliance ;)

My two cents.

Like the title says.  I know there is a task option to do this but it only allows the import from a local PC path.  Is there a way to put the package somewhere and delivery it from a UNC for example?  Or do I need a managed SW delivery job for that?

Hello Daniel,

Thanks for the $$$ wink

Managed delivery seems to be a great one. May be submit an Idea on Symantec Connect yes

I don't think there is one already

Hello Jason,

I think if you have a Software Library defined (pointing to UNC path), theoritically it should work. Just give a try smiley
