Not really.  But my understanding is that an official announcement has been issued at Vision in Barcelona today.

This whole thing has been in the works for a while.

I am in Barcelona at the moment attending Vision so will try and get more information on this. The Product Manager informed me that Flexera did not buy Wise so I'm confused - perhaps it was given away?  That does not sound like Symantec.

Please read the articles/links in my post below.

Symantec "just" discontinued Wise Package Studio....

I don't have 100% verified details, but there have been plenty of tweets...and I've had customers mentioning it to me today (unprompted by me).  Perhaps the "announcement" was less than official or meant to happen later.  Has anyone in Barcelona even confirmed the End of Life statement for Package Studio?

I have flagged it up and there are emails flying around. No doubt something will emerge from the dust cloud when the West Coast wakes up.

Now that this issue has been opened up in a public forum, I guess Symantec cannot leave it unaddressed.

Here's the End of Life announcement for Wise Package Studio 8 and some info on the "AdminStudio for Symantec" product:

Symantec has entered a partnership with Flexera Software, introducing a new solution, “AdminStudio for Symantec”, based on Flexera’s industry leading technology.

Flexera AdminStudio for Symantec includes integration with Symantec technologies and full support for all of the latest Windows operating systems and installation-related technologies, including the ability to capture both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. In addition, AdminStudio Virtualization Pack, an optional add-on pack, offers advanced packaging support for the application virtualization technologies from Microsoft (App-V), VMware (ThinApp) and Citrix (Xen App).

A Wise Package Studio 8.0 maintenance release is planned for late 2011 or early 2012. The release is expected to include critical bug fixes, and 64-bit support for the WiseScript Editor and SetupCapture tools. Flexera plans to add the enhanced WiseScript Editor to AdminStudio for Symantec and will continue to develop and support the tool going forward.

Therefore as of November 7, 2011, all versions of Wise Package Studio and the Wise Connector, including any Maintenance Packs and/or patches for each version, in all released languages will reach their End of Life (EOL).

...neither Symantec http://www.symantec.com/business/package-studio or Flexera http://www.flexerasoftware.com/company/newscenter/press-releases.htm seem to be saying much...

There is increasing evidence of some sort of technology exchange taking place between Symantec and Flexera as I speak to various people at the Vision conference. Information has been disclosed in some meetings with company VPs that would suggest there is some kind of deal on the table.

True but I seem to recall a multi-day lag between Package Studio 8's release and an update to the website, so I wouldn't put too much stock into lack of info on those sites.

If it's anything like the delay between a new OS or WI release and consequent support in WPS, we can expect the announcement in, what, 18 months or 2 years time?

It sounds like there won't be any official news on this until November 7th, perhaps for legal reasons.  But it is happening.
