HI

I have a simple question regarding to GUP`s.Does anyone have a hands-on experience with Read Only Domain Controllers acting as a GUP?I have a situtation where the only computer in each Branch Office that is 99% active is a RODC and i am considering making the RODC`s GUP-s.

Thanks in advance

not sure, I understand it is win 2008 server.

The GUP needs to be available on port the client connects for content request. if it is then you can have it is GUP.

Technically, there should not be any problems. GUPs can be activated on any SEP client.

But be aware that the DC is an important role. If there is another usable computer I would install the GUP on it, just to avoid cumulation of risks.

1. you can use a DC server as a GUP becuase GUP is nothing but a SEP client but it holds the direct update from server and distribute the update to clients.

2. A Windows server 2008/R2 which holds the DC role, it can also holds the many different roles so you can use this RODC systems as GUP.

3. 32 bit & 64 bit both OS are reliable to act as GUP.

4. Port no. 2967 shoulb be open from Server to GUP.

If helpful to mark as solution.

RODC only refers to the Domain Controller functionality. Other than that, it is an ordinary server.

Only see that the GUP is reacheable from Client side

Also check that the ports required for content updates are opened by directional

Hi Jordanco,

There is no problems, you can use any SEP installed machine as a GUP becuase GUP is nothing its a SEP client which take updates from SEPM server and distribute these updates to clients.

You should have to opened Port no. 2967 for GUP from all clients And port 8014 for SEPM from all clients.

Like:

GUP <--- All Clients   TCP 2967

SEPM <---- All Clients  TCP 8014
