Backup VMware Server
I am trying to backup a VMware server that is not a domain member. In the backup job I created the VMwareserver\Administrator as the logon account. When I test the logon credentials it is successful I have given logon account the following rights on the VM I am trying to backup:
Act as part of the operating system
Backup files and directories
Create a token object
Logon as a batch job (Windows 2008 only)
Logon as a service
Manage auditing and security log
Restore files and directories
Take ownership of files and other objects
The backup job fails with the error "The logon account that was provided does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct, and then try again."
I am able to backup VMware servers that are domain members without issue.

Hi,
Is that account created within BE itself as well? This is done under the Network and Security drop-down list.
Thanks!
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
I am using BE2012. The account is in Confuguration and Settings/Logon Accounts/Manage Logon Accounts. I don't see a Network option in 2012.
Thanks.

This may be something specific to VMWare. I am backing up physical servers on another domain with a logon account of otherdomain\Adminstrator without a problem. It is only non-domain VM's that are the giving me an issue.
Do they have these permissions as well - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... ?
To Backup a Virtul machine you may need to configure 2 accounts:
- one to connect to the ESX Host (or the vCenter server) which would either be a root account for the host or a Windows admin account local to or in the domain of the vCenter server
- one to login to the Virtul machine itself (which might not be needed if only doing file system GRT)
Sounds to me like you have configured the second of the accounts but not the first.
