We are making plans to migrate in the next year from Altiris TMS 6.x to Symantec ITMS 7.1 and management wants me to look into the possibility of using RFID with Barcode Solution 7.1 and Asset Management 7.1. Has anyone successfully implemented RFID in their environment yet using Asset/Barcode 7.1 and do you have any suggestions for making the implementation successful?

Thanks!

Where doing it now, we have learnt a lot about RFID - and still experimenting how to use the technology.

We are using  Asset/Barcode 7.1

Basically the problem with RFID is that the tags don't work well on computers or laptops because the surface area of the device has metal in it and this absorbs the RFID signal.

We are looking at some better tags, but with this comes cost and the tags are much larger (size of a drink coaster)

so far we are not impress with RFID, but in saying this IBM and we believe others will follow are installing active RFID tags in the computer motherboard.

An active tag requires a battery to function and is much larger and thicker then a passive tag (no good for external use) but the range is superior (10+ Meters)

Let me know if you'd like to know more.

We are using Motorola MC319z handheld scanners.
