Hi,

In our environment we are using CMS7.1 SP1. When we are trying to run/schedule any task by navigating to Manage-Jobs & Tasks, and selecting Task such as Run Windows System Assessment Scan or any tasks in Manage-Jobs & Tasks-Samples-Notification Server-Jobs and selecting any job,the task is not initializing and shows the task is read only. For reference I have attached one snapshot of the same.

Is there any configuration and setting required to run the task successfully. Please note we are not a part of Symantec Administrators group, we are in the following group.

Everyone

NT Authority\Authenticated Users

Patch Management  Administrators

Thanks,

The tasks you mentioned are read only by default.  You would need to right-click on a folder and choose New > Task, then select a task type, and make a task.

Does the task ever run on the client?  It must have the Software Update plug-in installed.  Does your test client have the Software Plug-in installed?  If not, you need to install it, typically by enabling the Software Update plug-in Install policy and making sure your client is targeted, then updating the client's policy.

You may also want to check with your Altiris Administrator at your company since they haven't granted you full privileges.

Thank Mike,

As suggested I tried the running task but got the result as "start pending". Further the clients are having Software Update plug-in installed and the task has been run before.

As i don't have the rights for  Altiris Administrator , is it possible for you to provide any document where the setting are mentioned to get the access . so that  i can suggest my admin to configure the rights so that we can run/schedule any task.

Thanks again

Hi Pravash,

Could you please double click on task instance and make screenshot of opened dialog?
Please also provide us with SMP logs captured when task is started.
If you have opportunity to access target machine, please open Task Status tab of Symantec Management Agent, then send us screenshot of task history and Agent logs captured when task was running.

Also please check with your admin the following questions:
Is it possible to start same task by user with Symantec Administrator role?
Were Patch Management Administrator Role's settings customised after installation?

Symantec Administrator may check permissions for Patch Management Administrator by the following steps:
Console > Settings > Security > Permissions

• Set Role: drop down to show 'Patch Management Administrator'
• Set View: drop down to show ‘Tasks’
• In the task's tree navigate to 'Run System Assessment Scan on Windows Computers' task

Thank you,
Roman
