Resolution of Ops Center Services not started,When Upgrading VBR TO Ops Center

Hi Guys

i want to mention a very special step which we need to take care about,when upgrading VBR To Ops Center

as when we upgrade OpsCenter from VBR ,And go to internet explorer ,it shows Server not found

when we checked the services Ops Center Services were not starting 

so i took help from symantec 

they resolve this and told that donot uninstall the VBR Server, and told us to follow the steps: 

 

Use the following procedure to uninstall VBR after upgrading to OpsCenter server on Windows platforms:
 
1.  Select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and stop the Symantec Product Authentication Service. 
2.  Navigate to the following location after upgrading from VBR to OpsCenter server: <install_path>\VERITAS\Security\Authentication...

Problems with non English Operating Systems

Hello all,

i will describe a specific Problem i had with a german Exchange Server Installation and BE2010

Environment:
Backup Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard German with Backup Exec 2010
Exchange Server: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard German, Exchange 2007

The Backup Exec Remote Agent was upgraded from 12.5 with a push installation.
Exchange GRT Backup always reported Back that the CDO is too old or not installed.

"V-79-57344-4615 - To support individual mailbox message and folder restores from Information Store backups, you must download and install the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects package version 06.05.7888 or later on the Exchange 2007 server. What not to do when you upgrade PureDisk

How it started

I've been delaying this PureDisk upgrade from 6.2 to 6.5.1.2.
There were simply many other tasks at my hands and also the upgrade did not simply look easy and it made me hesitate.

What if it goes wrong?
I thought "It will take too much time to create a full backup of the content router storage!" (well, later I found I did not have to do full content router backup anyway)

The most scray thing is that it's actually an OS upgrade and an application upgrade at the same time.
Both PDOS and PureDisk had to be upgraded together, on 3 nodes storage pool - SPA and MBE and CR.

I was telling myself, later I will do it, later I will do it ... and that "later" finally came.
Some other project was adding 3 more nodes (MBE CR CR) in to this storage pool and I had to upgrade existing pool before I add those 3 in.

Backup Exec: Move to machine with different operating system

The available knowledge base article to move a Backup Exec server to another machine does not help you, if the new machine runs on a different OS, e.g. 64-bit operating system.
I noticed that many users do not know of a useful option in Backup Exec, named “copy server configurations”. With this free option and my following guide, you will be able to copy your existing Backup Exec server onto a new machine with different operating system.
 
If both servers are present, you could use the following steps to copy your data:

Go to "Tools" -> "Install options and license keys on this media server" and check if the free option to copy server configuration, named "copy server configurations", is installed on the media server. If not, please install it.

BE System Recovery 2010: No migration from Manager!?

So, like you perhaps already know, the new version of Backup Exec System Recovery got released; Backup Exec System Recovery 2010. Some things changed, that are really important. For example the Manager no longer exists. This solution got replaced by Backup Exec System Recovery Management Solution.
I do not want to give a summary of the differences or pros and contras, I only want to talk about one fact that, in my opinion, is a absolute disaster:
 
If I'm not wrong (and I really searched all the information to this issue) you will not be able to migrate your storage destinations, jobs, schedules and so on from the Manager into the Management Solution. This means, that you will have to re-create you whole backups again!
Why in the world is that not possible? I already know customers of ours who will definitely go crazy.
 
The only information I found is, that you can migrate from BESR Solution to BESR Management...

Backup Exec: The challenge of updating RAWS with push wizard

Many users of Backup Exec are annoyed by the recommendation to apply all hotfixes made to the server also to the remote agent. I think this is quite understandable, because in daily business it is in most cases simply not easy to do it because of other, higher priority topics.

With this short piece of text I would like to change your point of view.
Please consider the following facts:

1. Many problems of backups with BE result out of a mismatch of server and RAWS.
2. Hotfixes are hotfixes, because they fix important issues.
3. If you have to call tech support, they will definitely check the version of server and RAWS and in case they do not match advise you to update.
4. This is really important: If you are waiting too long, the number of updates that have to be applied increase that much that a push update will no longer be possible.
